Thanks for the comments.
Its a strange problem, probably not helped by the fact that very little of the sound was actually captured from the camera.
Ill give these suggestions a shot, it seems that you can fanny around with Adobe Premier for ever, there is always something else to learn.... Sigh - should have stuck to *film* and super8 :-)
